Avatar, The Hurt Locker and An Education frontrunners at this years BAFTA ceremony

The nominations for the 2010 BAFTA awards have been announced and leading the pack with 8 nominations each are James Cameron's Avatar, Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker and Lone Scherfig's An Education.

Close behind  with 7 nominations is Neill Blomkamp's District 9 as well as Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds and Jason Reitman's Up In The Air being nominated in 6 different catagories each.

Other critically acclaimed films that are up for nomination in various different categories at this years BAFTAs are Pixar's UP, Fish Tank, In The Loop, Precious, Moon, The Lovely Bones, A Prophet, The White Ribbon and Let The Right One In.

In recent years, The BAFTA ceremony has served as a precursor for how that particular years OSCAR Academy Awards ceremony will turn out and if the same is true of this year it would seem that the likes of James Cameron, Quentin Tarantino and Kathryn Bigelow are very unlikely to not receive recognition in some capacity for their individual films during the 2010 film awards season.
